A little late, but for the past few weeks our Baby B has been sitting alone. Here are some of the very first shots. My heart really hurts to see time pass so quickly, but I truly do thank the Lord for every milestone and every healthy day He has given to my boys. Again, I have found myself saying, "It doesn't get better than this." Somehow, these little fellas have always proved me wrong.
Last week my nephew, Grant, visited the corn maze and pumpkin patch near my house. Mom watched Brady because it was so COLD, and Charlie and I went with his class. It was a blast. The maze was muddy and perfect for mean little boys. I was also able to spend the day with an old friend that I just don't see often enough, Nechia. We brought out pumpkin home. I was determined to do it a little different. Because I promise, and because it was cold, we did it inside. I was excited, Brady was excited, Charlie hated it! He almost puked when he touched the "pumpkin guts." Try as I may, he wanted no part. I even tried playing "Monster Mash" and "Ghostbusters" on Pandora to spice it up. Nope. Nothing. Brady enjoyed his first carving though. He's a trooper. I traced the symbol from one of Charlie's shirts, then cut it out, then traced it on the pumpkin. I am NOT an artist. Anyway, turned out ok.
Yesterday my Mom turned...well....better not say, but it was her birthday. Charlie and I made her some cupcakes because she spent the day here with the boys. We love our Nanny. After she leaves I am left trying to fill her shoes. I can never play "Ghost" like she does. I never know the passwords, and on and on. Brady always wants to be bounced on the bed to sleep when she has been with him. Humm? When I sat down with Charlie last night, with clean house and laundry thanks to Mom, I was asking him about his day with Nanny. He said, "Is Nanny still at my house?" He loves her. Brady loves her. I love her. We all love her. Beyond being a great Nanny, I am so thankful to have her as a Mom. When I am sick, when I am laughing, I just want to call her. That means she's something special.
Happy Birthday to the most fiesty, fun, and wonderful Nanny and Mama!
Yes, here are the musical skills I've been hiding and Charlie's dance skills I am sure he learned from me. I am really sorry about the focus problems, but I have to film fast when it's Charlie because when he realizes what I am doing he turns into "Fight you down Charlie." Plus, I was jamming the harmonica.
Brady joined in, but I hope you hear it. What's funny is, I told him if he'd sing it then I would get Brady out of the bath and give him more bubbles, so the last words that got cut off are, "Now dis get him out now, Mama."
(out of focus because it was one handed with the other hand on B)
Charlie and I seriously fell in love with the library this month. I've enjoyed reading my WWII Survivors stories, and Charlie has really started to enjoy those books with audio CDs to follow along with. The "ding" to turn the page makes him smile everytime. Anyway, I checked out a book called, Robot Zot, by Jon Scieszka, illustared by David Shannon (which is why I got it. His books crack me up.) After getting it I realized it was the most painful read ever! Plus, the guy reading it sounded like the killer from the Saw movies. Of course that meant Charlie loved it. He talked about robots all the time. After Charlie heard this about 1,000 times we had to return it. He was sad, so I flipped through one of those cheesy parenting magazines telling you not to spank and how if your child drinks non-organic milk he will die before school age.....but among that junk I remembered seeing a picture of a homemade robot. So, using the junk most of you cringe when you think of me keeping, we made this.....
Whew! Saturday was a day. Let me just tell you that I can never completely explain the fun of this weekend's festivities, I'll let the pictures do most of the explaining. My mom, Tiffany, and I loaded up the kids and, while wearing 10 layers, we went to the Woolly Worm fest in Banner Elk. I'd always heard people complain about the crowds and traffic, but I can honestly say it was worth it. I've lived here my whole life and never gone. We entered four worms: Kendall, "Reece Cup," Grant, "Woolly Stripes," Charlie, "The Monster," and Brady, "Squishy." Charlie and I had collected these critters for a few weeks. We were ready for today. We almost missed the first race, but after Tiffany sprinted while dragging her kids to the stage and yelling for them to wait, we made it. She heard this tale that keeping your worm warm helped the speed, so she carried hers in her toboggan all day. When her race came she couldn't find it in her hat until the crowd yelled and told her it was crawling on top of her head. Ha ha ha. Priceless. Anyway, B didn't make it until his race. He was sleeping, so Grant raced for him. Charlie did not want to touch it, so I finally gave in and put it on his string. He was excited. Charlie and I seemed to have a great chance, but then I noticed about 10 worms further than us. Grant racing Brady's worm was a little more stubborn, but he did a great job anyway. Mom was a trooper. She wasn't feeling the best, but she handled every situation like a pro. Even after the tent over the food tables crashed on her and Brady. It was windy, crowded, loud, and busy, but it was a day where memories were made. I will be there next year for sure.
The following pictures are in no order. They have been taken over the past month or so. I grabbed from everywhere, my camera, my Mom's, my cell phone, everywhere. I hope you enjoy a few random looks into my family's precious life. These make me laugh, and I am sure raise a few questions about my skills as a parent. I assure you. I don't let my children drive or hang out the window on roads other than our driveway. :)
