Charlie turns 3!

Charles Craig Ward

Three years ago tomorrow our little family met a stubborn little newborn in the midst of a blizzard. I spent 3 years ago today on my Nana's couch crying because I knew I was going to be pregnant another month! The ladies at my Midwife's office laughed every time I waddled in. Due date, 2 days late, 4 days late, 6 days late.....

Then, when my water finally broke, Charlie took his sweet time coming. I remember Jamie giving me a hug as we walked out of our house that morning. We had no idea what Charlie had planned for us. No one was able to make plans on the day he was born because the weather was so crazy, but what a perfect day it was.

And three years later it seems he is still that stinker. The checkout ladies know him by name, his doctor seems tickled to see him, "Charlie!!" is infamous in our Wal-Mart, young girls who are friends of my family members will come up and hug him and I have no idea who they are, but they sure love him. He's my precious little guy. He has kept me on my toes, but taught me so much too. I love asking him where he got his eyes. He says, "From you, Mama." My face has an immediate smile when his little feet come down the hall in the middle of the night and he asks, "Can you nuggle me up and get my mill-mill?" I don't even answer, I just snuggle him up and get him something to drink. When I ask what he learned in Sunday School, and he tells me a story in the innocent words of a child and I sit there, silent, crying. It's those things I love.

I never knew the feeling of motherhood. I couldn't even imagine. It is a blessing the Lord takes time to bestow. Every milestone has been so precious to me. I love it, and I have prayed so many times that time slows down and Charlie won't change so quickly, but I can honestly say, every stage is wonderful, every new thing learned is a blessing.

This year has held lots of exciting things.

3 years of absolute and total FUN! I never thought I could name DC and Marvel superheroes separately, make 15 different meals with cheese, catch nasty frogs, remove haircurlers from the toilet and markers from the carpet, memorize "Jumpy Jack and Googlily" by heart, solve Scooby Doo mysteries with the real bad guys names, brush teeth of a singing boy, feed Goldie AND unfeed Goldie everyday, discuss, debate, and decide where we eat because of the ice cream they have, survive 75 mild heart attacks on the day we decide to play swimming pool with pillows, attend at least 3 concerts a week some are quite unclear, however.......and more.....so so much more.

Charlie, we love you, we are thankful for you, and one day you'll realize just how much you've given to us!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Charlie!

The Cut

So, I realized at a year I needed to cut Charlie's hair. I had NO idea it would make him grow up so quickly, so with Brady I was holding out. Recently he's been wiping the hair out of his own eyes, so....

I broke. I'll have to admit, he is one handsome little dude. Thank goodness my hairdresser, Jennifer, knows all my emotional issues, but loves me anyway, and kept every hair.

Here's to my first night without my little hippie boy :(
