Woolly Worm Fest 2012

Once again, Tiff, Mom, and I took the kids to the COLDEST place south of the pole, Banner Elk for the annual Woolly Worm Festival. Mom and Jimmy worked for seriously weeks to gather the best of the best worms to choose from. All the kids took serious time considering the proper names.

Kendall: Willie Tillie
Grant: Tyrone
Charlie: Tai Long
Brady: Hootie

Here's the breakdown of the results.

Hootie died shortly after the race began due to serious head trama. He feel off of the racing string because he was the stupidest worm in the heat. Brady didn't care because he snoozed through his entire racing hooplah.

Tyrone seemed confused and constantly tried turning himself in the wrong direction. Afer a few heafty breaths from Grant he moved a little, but fell short of the prize.

Tai Long was a worm bred and chosen for fighting. Since Charlie thought it was going to be a worm "fight" instead of "race" he trained his contender for the ring, thus, lacking the racing skills needed to win.

Willie Tillie might possibly have been the racer to watch. I believe he did the best simply because of the rocking cheering squad near by. He started off slow, but won a celebrated 3rd place.

We were frozen and snotty, but we all had a blast. Maybe next year we will all learn from our shortcomings and dominate the races.

Live racing videos coming soon.....

The World is Mine

.....thanks for sharing, Grammie ;)

THE WORLD IS MINE
Today, upon a bus,
I saw a very beautiful woman
And wished I were as beautiful.
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle.
She had one leg and used a crutch.
But as she passed, she passed a smile.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two legs; the world is mine.
I stopped to buy some candy.
The lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad.
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with folks like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two eyes; the world is mine.
Later while walking down the street,
I saw a child I knew.
He stood and watched the others play,
but he did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join them dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
I forgot, he couldn't hear.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I have two ears; the world is mine.
With feet to take me where I'd go..
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd know.
Oh, God, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed, the world is mine.

Just like this

Today the boys and I made our way down the driveway to get the mail. On our way passed the barn where I have been storing my teaching things (yes, a barn) I remembered that I had a Fall box of decor. I drug them into the barn and brushed the cobwebs as we walked. The boys seemed to show only a minor interest at first. They were looking at my Dad's old motorcycle magazines stacked beside my boxes instead. I opened box and drug out just a few little plastic pumpkin things, and it was on. They both moved basically on top of me and starting digging. Charlie drug out a tacky Halloween table cloth and yelled, "Hey Mama, we really need dis sheet wif bats on it!" Brady was babbling some excitement too. Item after item I was more surprised because I had forgotten about so many things. I stood up to rake the dust off of my pants, and looked down at my boys. They were rummaging through junk. Silly Dollar Store decorations that 9 out of 10 of my family members would have trashed the minute they saw them, but these little guys were living it up. Loving every item just as much as I did when I bought it. I took a picture in my mind. "Just like this, just like this" I hope they can stay just like this. I love them being little and messy, but that wasn't what I was thinking. I meant, I hope they never lose their love for the little things, their excitement over the little, simple joys.
We brought back our treasures and decorated with care. They did manage to agree to let me wait on hanging the glittery "Happy Halloween" banner until later. This afternoon I can say that I felt proud. I fail often, there are things daily I need to change, but one thing I like about my life is that I really try to keep perspective. I'm not blind to the big issues around us. I fret too. I pray too. I get angry too, but I am glad that I have shared the simple joys of hoarding with my boys. It's the little things....and I hope they stay just like this.

Pumpkin Patch

Tonight Charlie, Brady, Casey, and Kathy...Charlie's "Miney," visited a friend's awesome pumpkin patch. It was a great way to start the Fall Hooplah. The kids had a blast, and I enjoyed hearing them pick out pumpkins based on the bumps or tall stems. I can't wait to clean these out and ultimately and most likely screw this pumpkin carving up.

Brady Visits the Dentist

This week held lots of busy days. Thursday, Charlie and Brady visited their dentist. This was Charlie's second visit and cleaning. Brady went for the very first time. Just an exam for him. Charlie was very excited and loves the dentist. Literally. He told me she was a girlfriend. Anyway, Brady wasn't sure when we first went in the exam room, but when he watched Charlie hop onto the Charlie and open up like a BIG boy, he did the same. It was awesome. The ladies bragged and admired the size of my growing fellas. I loved that the most. This week marked another milestone that made me ache a little in the heart, but swell with pride over the two healthy boys the Lord has blessed me with.
We topped the day off with cupcakes. What better after a cleaning right? Thanks, Dr. Kinlaw, for another great visit.

Charlie the Questionaire

Below I have compliled a list of rather complicated questions that Charlie has asked over the past week or so. I encourage any help on these answers. I did the best I could and seemed to satisfy him, but a couple really made me think. Direct quotes, word for word. He's such a little dude:)

Why does a blow make candles disappear?
What's the real name of puppies?
What can chump a house down?
Where does this spacebar come from?
What is in light?
Why does God and Jesus make it day and night and day and night?
When is it yesterday?
Do you like flying rocks?
Why do people think castles are mean?
What is dirt made of?
What's the top of your mouth called?
Why doesn't the horse movie have Bible songs?
Who is Capt. America's daddy?
