Lessons Learned

Me: "Charlie, hunny, what's that smell?"

Charlie: "It's Brady."

Me: "No, it's you. Come to the potty. Why did you not stop playing and go to the potty?"

Charlie: "I couldn't. The ogre was about the attack the knights that lived in the Joker House."

Me: "......."

Charlie: "Mom, look. It wasn't an accident, just some skids in my undies."

LESSONS LEARNED:

#1. Four year olds learn early to blame others.

#2. Imaginex ogres do NOT stop their attacks for restroom breaks.

#3. Never use bathroom slang unless you are prepared to hear it from a child in the future.

Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Reece

I must use one of my favorite movie quotes of all time. In the 90's movie, A League of Their Own, one of the main characters jokes about how her parents always see her in the shadow of her sister. Thus, my inspiration for this quote...

"This is our daughter, Tiffany...this is our other daughter, Tiffany's sister."

I am kidding of course. I simply could not let my older sister's bright accomplishments go unrecognized. This year Tiffany earned the title of Cove Creek Elementary's Teacher of the Year. Though some say awards are given, this one was truly earned. Tiffany does the hard things with a smile, and always has her students' best interest at heart. Our nation would be far stronger if all educators had the dedication, heart, and positive character that Tiffany has. I am thankful she has given me so much to look to not only in the classroom, but in life. I love her, and I am so proud of her.

Look guys

Brady's new thing is, "guys." I have come to realize that whatever you say in repetiton or out of habit is picked up quickly. You never realize that you say things so much until you start hearing them out of the mouth of babes :) Apparently we say "guys" all the time. "Hey guys."  "Come on guys." "Stop guys"...now Brady says, "Look guys." Cracks me up.

Charlie turns 4!

Did you know that four years ago, March 1st, Cannon Memorial Hospital saw the most exciting snow in years? Well, something even more remarkable should be remembered that day. Charles Craig Ward entered my life with a head full of hair and a sweet little cry. The memories are so fresh for me. There is no way I could ever forget the day the Lord blessed my life.

It is true, a child changes your life forever, however, what no woman can be prepared for is how they change your heart. You hurt for them more than you ever imagined, you laugh louder, snuggle tighter, and consider every little aspect of life more than you ever did before.

After plenty of discussion Charlie decided he wanted a basketball party this year. We held the hooplah at Jamie's old elementary school. We battled the weather and a lack of heat, but our loved ones pulled through. The party was a reminder of just how much Charlie means.

We took the entire week prior to his birthday in true Heather fashion. HOOPLAH...yes, Melissa, plain old hooplah. No day is more exciting than your birthday, so I made it as special as possible. We decorated Charlie's room with banners and streamers, huge banners in the kitchen, made a homemade cake just the way Charlie wanted it, then ate it for birthday breakfast, took a late night trip to Chuck E Cheese, and then topped off the weekend with a trip to the ASU basketball game.

I can't stop and think about time very often. I shed tears, a lot on my pillow while I snuggled him in the middle of the night. He still smells the same, he still drags the same ragged blanket, he's still my baby. I hold him down on occasion, and make him admit that he loves me. Each milestone is a gift, but that doesn't make it easy on my heart. I miss rocking him. I miss nursing him, but how thankful I am to be able to see him grow and learn. I love him, and I love that I am seeing him become a young man.

Happy Birthday, Charlie!
